Those disrupting voting process should be held accountable: IEC

The Electoral Commission says efforts are underway to ensure that those responsible for disrupting the special voting process are held accountable.
Several incidents have been reported across the country since Monday, including the tampering of voting material and intimidation of electoral officers.
In one incident, two women have been arrested in the Eastern Cape after allegedly attempting to steal election material from the Ngcobo Police Station.
Briefing the media in Midrand, north of Johannesburg, IEC Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo says such acts threaten the integrity of the electoral process.
“The commission has also noted a sharp increase in actions of prohibited conduct and glaring criminal behaviour by some supporters of political parties. In Mpumalanga, a candidate in Ward 30 Phake Rankaile voting district stormed the voting station, damaged electoral materials. This candidate has now been arrested. In KwaZulu-Natal, supporters of a party stormed a Library satellite warehouse, where election materials are kept and held election officials hostage.”
