Al Jama-ha hopes to win municipalities and grow strategically

As vote counting continues in the 2026 Local Government Elections, the Al Jama-ah party says it hopes to win some wards in different municipalities and expand its influence in local government.
Political parties are waiting in anticipation as results continue to trickle in, with some already securing seats in councils across the country.
The party says it is targeting strategic positions and hopes to secure mayoral posts in municipalities.
Imraan Ismail-Moosa, the party’s MP, says, “We’re hoping that, as Al Jama-ah, we scoop a few wards, as a small alternative party and become kingmaker. As you know, we had previously several mayors in the City of Johannesburg. So we’re hoping that the circumstances also repeat itself where we have a few mayors and a few strategic positions as Al Jama-ah party.”
