The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has made its first national picture prediction for the 2026 Local Government Election (LGE).

The CSIR has cautioned that these are projections based on the results available at this stage, and the picture is expected to change as more voting districts are declared.

CSIR’s Dr Pravesh Debba says that, based on their early prediction, the African National Congress (ANC) is the leading party, followed by the Democratic Alliance and the Umkhonto we Sizwe Party (MKP).

Debba says, “At moment with 13% of the voting districts declared, ANC is projected to end up around 31.7%, DA is expected to end up around 25.8%, MKP is expected to end up around 9%, EFF at around 6% and Action SA, we are looking at around 5%.”
