All material objections to W Cape LGE results fully resolved: IEC

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) in the Western Cape has confirmed that all material objections relating to the 2026 Local Government Elections in the province have been resolved.
Provincial Electoral Officer Michael Hendrickse says in a statement that all outstanding matters had been dealt with.
Hendrickse explains that, with 100% of the province’s results captured and audited, all objections are decided upon by the Commission in terms of Section 65 of the Municipal Electoral Act.
“As previously explained, the results system identifies statistical anomalies that require solution, resulting in completed results being held back until resolved. Contestants have also lodged objections that are material to the results that must be decided upon by the commission in terms of Section 65 of the Act. In this regard, following an objection we can confirm that there has been one recount which has now been concluded in a single voting district in the Breede Valley Municipality.”
With 68% of VDs declared for the City of Cape Town, the CSIR predicts that the Mother City’s 235-seat council will see the leading party, DA, retaining its controlling majority of seats (at least 116 seats), with an additional four seats from 135 seats held in 2021 to a predicted 139 seats for 2026. https://t.co/jnHIcSGRjz
