A total of 18 political parties will be represented in the new council of Nelson Mandela Bay. The Democratic Alliance (DA) has the largest number of seats, with 53, but this is not enough to control the 120-seat council.

African National Congress (ANC) support dropped to 25%, enough for 32 seats. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has 7 seats, and the South African Communist Party and the Patriotic Alliance 4 each.

The Mayibuye Civic Movement is a local party that gained enough support for 2 seats, the same as established national parties ActionSA and the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party).

8 other parties garnered a seat each.

The Metro has been marked by instability, with governance and financial management problems flagged in Parliament.
