The murder of United Democratic Movement (UDM) councillor Luxolo Namette in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro in the Eastern Cape has left his family devastated.

Namette was a PR Councillor for the UDM. The party has just clinched three seats in the metro.

He was shot outside a barbershop in NU 9, Motherwell.

His father, Thembelani Namette, is finding it hard to come to terms with his death.

“These news have broken me into pieces. I received the call while I was in church. If it’s a person who did this, it’s fine. If it’s politics, it’s also fine. He was such a sweet person to anyone even if they are not his family. This is hard. He left his wife and kids.”

‘Dedicated councillor’

The motive for the attack is not known yet. His killer or killers are still on the loose.

The police has pledged to leave no stone unturned in the investigation promising to put seasoned detectives on the case.
According to the police he died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Fellow councillors came to the crime scene where they described Namette as a very dedicated councillor, who put the needs of people first.

His party, the UDM, says his murder casts a dark shadow over the just concluded election.

Namette’s political journey began in the ranks of the UDM Youth Vanguard where he was a spirited young activist.

He served as the chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro during the previous administration.
