Ramaphosa arrives in Midrand for 2026 election results announcement

President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived at the IEC Results Operation Centre Midrand in Johannesburg for the announcement of the 2026 local elections results.
Several political leaders are also in attendance.
After four days of counting and verification of results from over 23 000 voting stations countrywide, the IEC will finally announce the outcomes of the crunch 2026 local polls.
After the IEC’s declaration of the results, newly elected municipal councils must hold their first meetings in 14 days for councillors to elect their respective speakers, followed by mayors and other office bearers.
With over 130 hung councils from these elections, political parties have now begun discussions in earnest in a bid to constitute coalition municipal governments on time.
