Political parties intending to participate in this year’s local government elections have until 5pm on the 28th of August to submit their candidate nominations.

This was announced by the Electoral Commission (IEC) during a media briefing in Centurion on Friday afternoon.

The commission has also officially published the election timetable following the proclamation of the election date.

The local government elections will be held on the 4th of November.

Meanwhile, citizens have until midnight Friday to register to vote on the IEC’s online platform before the voters’ roll officially closes.

“Candidate nomination officially opens today and will close at 17h00 hours on 28 August 2026. Therefore, registered political parties and independent candidates intending to contest the 2026 local government elections have 21 calendar days to submit their candidate list and nomination documents,” IEC Chairperson Commissioner Mosotho Moepya explains.
