The African National Congress (ANC) has issued a statement clarifying its position regarding the removal of Andile Lungisa, a member of the party’s National Executive Committee, from the proportional representation candidate list.

Lungisa claims that he was the party’s initial candidate for the Nelson Mandela Bay list ahead of the 4 November polls.

However, according to the ANC, the outcomes of the vetting process revealed adverse findings against Lungisa, meaning he does not meet the NEC’s criteria for candidate nominees.

The party also insists on dealing with the matter behind close doors.

The Johannesburg High Court has reserved its judgment on the matter until the 12 October.
