About the party
The Basic Income Grant South Africa (BIGSA) was initially formed in 2018 and operated as a lobby group for several years before officially registering as a political party in 2021 under founder and president Hendrick Peter Kekana. The BIGSA party was not a contender in 2021 and did not win any municipal seats in local polls. In 2024 BIGSA contested the Gauteng Provincial Legislature but did not get enough votes to reach the threshold to enter the provincial legislature.
