About the party
Former longtime Minority Front (MF) councillor Patrick Pillay founded the Democratic Liberal Congress (DLC) in Durban in June 2016. The DLC is opposed to affirmative action and land expropriation without compensation, while favouring government austerity measures and business simplification. In its 2016 debut election, the party secured 1 seat in the eThekwini Metropolitan Council and retained the seat in the subsequent 2021 local election
