Led by Princess Dipuo Mokola, the South African Royal Kingdoms Organisation (SARKO) was officially registered as a political party on March 4, 2021. SARKO advocates for restoring land and dignity to indigenous populations, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting clean local governance. In the 2021 local elections, the party secured just 0.03% of the national vote and a single council seat. However, this seat proved strategic in the Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality. After the ANC lost its outright majority, SARKO joined a minority coalition led by the MAP16 Civic Movement, successfully voting the ANC out of executive power.
