About the party

Sizwe Ummah Nation (SUN) was officially registered with the IEC on April 15, 2015 but entered the national political stage ahead of the 2024 general elections. SUN was established by a faction of individuals who broke away from the African National Congress (ANC) and is led by prominent businessman Rasheed Ebrahim Gutta. The party did not actively field candidates or contest seats during the 2016 local government elections. In 2021, The party failed to win any municipal council or ward seats anywhere in the country, with its involvement limited to select local wards or subsequent municipal by-elections in the iNkosi Langalibalele and Bergrivier municipalities
