Labour Party urges ConCourt to apply one standard to all parties

The Labour Party says the Constitutional Court must apply one standard to all parties after it ruled in favour of the African National Congress (ANC).
The apex court cleared 181 previously disqualified ANC candidates to contest the November 4th local government elections.

The Labour Party interim president, Joseph Mathunjwa, says they were robbed of contesting nationally and in four provinces in 2024, after similar glitches on the IEC’s online system.
“We really received this judgment with serious dismay and concern; nevertheless, we support the candidates’ right to stand for election. We’ve got nothing to do with that. The Labour Party was excluded in 2024 after experiencing the problems with the same IEC system, and surely the public is entitled to ask why the ANC has received relief, and the Labour Party did not. Then the question would be: does the ruling vindicate what the Labour Party argued in 2024?”
