The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it is confident of making gains in the upcoming Local Government Elections (LGE), blaming poor service delivery for growing public dissatisfaction with municipalities.

Party members from across KwaZulu-Natal have gathered at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban for the party’s final rally, ahead of the November 4 polls.

DA Youth Chairperson in KZN, Sthabelo Ntshangase, says there are municipalities that will be governed by the DA after the LGE.

“We are very excited about this rally because we’ve been working on the ground since the whole year and we are positive that in this election, the DA will get seats and also, there are going to be municipalities where the DA is going to govern.”

Ntshangase adds: “People and the residents of KZN are sick and tired of the municipalities or the government that does not deliver services to the people. We are very excited to invite all our members across the different constituencies, from the Zululand up until the Ugu side, to come together and say that enough is enough on the 4th of November; we need to vote the DA in all 3 ballots.”

Ntshangase has urged young people to use their votes to demand change.

“We encourage young people to participate in this election, because we currently know that young people in this country are the ones who are unemployed. For us, as young people, to be able to fight for this, able to deal, we must go in all out and fight our fights in the ballot box. We know that the young people of 1976, they fought in the streets, but now, as young people, you must go to the ballot and vote for the government that delivers, that is the government of the DA.”

Ntshangase says, “We know that as politicians, we don’t create jobs but as politicians, we are the one that’s making the environment to be friendly so that investors come in our municipalities and able to invest and able to get jobs. If we are having a good municipalities that is run by the DA, investors will come along and be able to invest, then unemployment will decrease…”
