The uMkhonto Wesizwe party’s 1st Deputy President, Duduzane Zuma, says the president of the party, his father Jacob Zuma, is in good health. This comes after Zuma was hospitalised a few weeks ago due to a health scare, making him a no-show at some of the party’s rallies.

Zuma announced this while addressing party members and supporters in the party’s mini rally at K section uMlazi, south of Durban, ahead of the local government elections.

“One message the president of this party has told me to pass on today and yesterday, and whenever else it is that we go, until he shows up himself … by the way, he is doing absolutely fine, he is healthy, and it’s clear, and he demonstrated a few days ago that he is in charge … the message that he’s given is one message and one simple message, focus,” he says.

The MKP has been rocked by instability, most recently with the axing of party’s Secretary-General Sbonelo Nomvalo.

According to the party, Nomvalos’ removal followed concerns relating to the councillor selection process.

Zuma says the party is dealing with the candidate list manipulation.

“I can guarantee you, the president of this organisation uBaba uNxamalala, he is going to address the issues that people think we forgot about, the issues of lists, the people behind those lists changes over our councillor candidates. We know the disruptions, we know the sabotage. We are very clear on exactly what is going on. Investigations of the system we will get to the bottom of it. Once we’ve done that, we will report and say this happened and this is the reason why and these are the people responsible. That may not happen in this entirety before November the 4th. Some issues we have to deal with, some we will deal with, others we will deal with them after the elections,” explains Zuma.
