South African Communist Party (SACP) General Secretary Solly Mapaila says the party is contesting the up-coming local government elections to bring back the forgotten voices of the poor.

Mapaila was addressing the Red October Siyaqoba Rally in Thulamahashe, Bushbuckridge, in Mpumalanga. He says they intend to address service delivery concerns raised in different municipalities.

“We have entered the terrain on behalf of the people, the poor, the working class, whose voice has been dipped, has been undermined. But we are bringing that voice much stronger to the local councils to prioritise their programmes to build people’s power where people live and make sure that we create the right to work. We resuscitate that, a forgotten aspects of the people’s wishes the freedom charter. We are rebuilding that to make sure that people have access basic service water and electricity,” he says.
