Chikane says some South Africans never accepted democracy

Anti-apartheid activist Reverend Frank Chikane says there are people in South Africa who never accepted the democratic dispensation.
Chikane was speaking in an exclusive interview with the SABC ahead of the African Diaspora conference that will be held in Ekurhuleni this week.
He says to some people 1994 should never have happened, but the new South Africa is for everyone.
“They exploded bombs until the last week to stop this from happening. Now that it is happening, they see this as negative. They see it as genocide. I can’t see where genocide comes in here,” says Chikane.
“Are they trying to say because of white farmers who are being killed? But there are more black farmers who are killed on those farms. It has nothing to do with targeting people. The reality is change will affect them because they were privileged,” he adds.
Chikane warns of attempts to reverse democratic gains:
Meanwhile, Chikane says the ANC will communicate its decision on who will be the mayoral candidate of the City of Johannesburg.
He says Johannesburg Metro is one of the very important municipalities in the country.
“When I was nominated, I thought if they wanted me to help deal with Johannesburg and get it to work, it was not for me to come back into government. I never wanted to come back to government, but if there is a crisis people want to resolve, I’ll do it. So, they went through the process and announced the shortlist and decided they are going to finalise this matter after the elections,” he says.
