The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has expressed concern about the Cape Town taxi violence saying it could deter voters in Wednesday’s local government elections.

It says action must be taken against those who perpetuate violence and is calling for the long-standing dispute between the taxi associations to be resolved.

IFP Chief Whip, Nhlanhla Hadebe, elaborates: “This violence raises serious concerns about the ability of affected communities to exercise their democratic right to vote freely, safely, and without intimidation. Many residents depend on public transport to access voting stations. Should these disruptions continue, voters may face difficulties reaching polling stations, while fear and uncertainty could discourage participation.”
