Woman arrested for trying to steal voting material in EC

The Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Eastern Cape says a proportional representation candidate contesting the Local Government Elections in the Engcobo Municipality has been arrested for allegedly attempting to steal election material from the Engcobo Police Station.
Provincial Electoral Officer Khayakazi Magudumana says two women arrived at the police station claiming they had been sent by presiding officers to collect IEC documents.
Magudumana says one of the women was arrested, while police are still searching for the second suspect.
“On the verification of the information, the two presiding officers who were supposed to collect their material, they didn’t know any of that arrangement. The two people were then chased away from the site, but they did attempt to steal … there’s no other word for it. They were attempting to steal the two boxes.”
“It’s two ladies, and one of them is a PR candidate in this election, and the lady is currently in the police station. She has been arrested, and the other one, they are still looking for her,” adds Magudumana.
