DA raises concerns with IEC over delayed delivery of ballot papers

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has written to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) over delays in the delivery of ballot papers during special voting at stations across the country.
The party says the delays affected voting stations in the Western Cape, Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.
This comes as the final day of special voting continues nationwide on Tuesday.
DA national spokesperson Jan de Villiers says voters need reassurance that similar delays will not occur tomorrow when the majority of South Africans head to the polls.
“We wrote to the IEC yesterday and we asked for three things. We first asked for a firm timeline for every outstanding ballot. And secondly, we asked for a guarantee that every approved special voter must get to vote today or then on Wednesday, which tomorrow is the normal election day.”
“Thirdly, we also asked for a full explanation to all parties in the party liaison committee so that it will never happen again, especially won’t happen on election day when it’s critical that all ballot papers are in place,” adds De Villiers.
