Eastern Cape voting process largely smooth amid isolated disruptions

The Eastern Cape has had a smooth voting process so far in most voting districts, with isolated incidents of protests and threats of disruption.
A 54-year-old woman has been arrested at Ntshutshwini Village in Ward 22 of Mnquma Local Municipality for allegedly circulating a voice note threatening violence and discouraging residents from voting over poor service delivery.
Police were also deployed to Dutywa after disgruntled residents blocked the entrance to a voting station.
Provincial Police Commissioner Vuyisile Ncata says the situation has since been brought under control and the voting station has reopened.
Officials at a voting station in the Impisi area near Bizana experienced difficulties accessing the site due to muddy roads following recent heavy rains.
In Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, voting proceeded smoothly with no major disruptions reported.
Despite isolated challenges in parts of the province, the Electoral Commission and police say they remain on high alert to ensure a peaceful and uninterrupted voting process.
