Electoral Commission (IEC) CEO Sy Mamabolo has announced that 2.6-million special vote applications have been approved for the November 4th local government elections (LGE).

The applications allow a registered voter who can’t cast their ballot on the day to vote before election day.

Briefing the media on the state of readiness for the upcoming elections, Mamabolo announced that the special vote will be held on the 2nd and 3rd of November.

“The special votes are in two categories. Firstly, home visits. The Commission has approved 678 000 applications in this category. Now we turn to voting station based special votes. The Commission has approved 1.9 million applications in this category. In terms of the election timetable special voting will be conducted on 2nd and 3rd of November 2026”
