Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Geordin Hill-Lewis says the National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, should focus on the introduction of lifestyle audit for senior police officers.

Masemola will be returning to work tomorrow, after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) withdrew charges of contravening the public Finance Management Act against him.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Friday that Masemola’s suspension had been lifted.

Hill-Lewis spoke to the SABC on the sidelines of his party’s provincial manifesto launch in Potchefstroom, North West.

“What we desperately need, is a stable leadership in the SAPS, and clean leadership in the SAPS. It is important that SAPS leadership is above any question mark and reproach. We cannot have criminals in the SAPS.”

“So, I would like to see a proper lifestyle audit of every senior officer in the SAPS national leadership. I would like to see complete clean out of anyone who is tainted by corruption or any allegiance with criminal and criminality in the SAPS, so that we start with the long turn around,” explains Hill-Lewis.
