“And when we make our towns safer and when we invest in the community, something amazing happens. Do you know what happens? Jobs come, jobs arrive. The towns and the cities that are DA-governed have created more jobs than any other place in the country over the last five years. Here is the basic rule that we can all follow: Where the DA governs, jobs follow,” says Hill-Lewis.
DA Western Cape leader, Tertuis Simmers is confident that the party will retain its outright majority as the governing party in the province. He says their track record in municipalities across the province is the reason why voters will vote for the party, on the 4th of November.
“I’m confident that our team have done a lot of work here today and we will be doing for the next 24 days. But ultimately it’s in the hands of our voters. Your five minutes 20 minutes in the queue determines the next five years. So I’m confident that the voters we’ll see what we have done for all of you. And we’ll see change rise with your vote. So vote DA to give us outright majority across all municipalities in the Western Cape,” says Simmers.

Accordingly, the party resolved to make the issue of high cost of living in Cape Town, one of their key priorities. Simmer says they also seek to address the factors that drive the high cost of living in the city.
“That is getting the basics right is to ensure that we focus on affordable mix-use, mix income, housing developments across the city but also across our secondary cities in the Western Cape. As the Western Cape Government for last seven years we’ve been implementing this in stages. And we are at the stage where we have actually announced multiple inner city developments which seek to address the need for social housing which is a rental option but also the affordability for those that seek to buy within the inner city,” he adds.
As the race for power in the municipalities is tightening across the country, it remains to be seen whether the DA will retain its outright majority, in the Western Cape.
