Eastern Cape ANC Chairperson Oscar Mabuyane has cautioned party members against resorting to court to settle internal party disputes. Mabuyane was speaking during a door-to-door campaign in Zwide township in Gqeberha.
He says the ANC is targeting an outright majority in Nelson Mandela Bay after the Local Government Elections (LGE). The Metro has been under coalition government since the 2016 LGE.
The party in the province has been facing legal battle from its own members leading to the Provincial Elective Conference being interdicted.
The court further nullified the Provincial Task Team meant to replace the Provincial Executive Committee while NEC member and Nelson Mandela Bay Mayoral candidate Andile Lungisa, has taken the party to court over the omission of his name in the Proportional Representative (PR) list.
Mabuyane says the party is focused on regaining the lost ground.
“Unfortunately, almost all those who are taking instant to court have never observed and respected the internal processes. Indeed, these are internal matters. That should have been dealt with and attended to internally. But it’s difficult when you are dealing with people who are playing double standard, claiming to be the ANC while they are behaving as not ANC members. ANC members know very well how the ANC operates and how the ANC functions. Unfortunately, lazy has got to defend itself, which is taken into court. But we’re not closing any door to engage and negotiate with all members who are genuinely concerned about their rights being victimised, probably within the ANC.”
