Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says the party’s mayoral candidate for the City of Johannesburg, Tlaleng Mofokeng, is head and shoulders above the DA’s candidate, Helen Zille.

Dr Mofokeng and Zille are among those vying for the position of mayor in Johannesburg ahead of the 4 November local government elections.

Malema also criticised people for celebrating activities such as spinning a ‘Gusheshe’ which is a slang for a BMW 325iS, saying the focus should instead be on issues that improve people’s lives, including food security and healthy living.

His remarks come as Zille, who led the DA’s “Joburg Now or Never Rally”, arrived in a ‘Gusheshe’ on Saturday at the Nasrec Expo centre.

Malema says Mofokeng is not only educated but has also worked with many people.

“You are celebrating a person who spins Gusheshe and you think that thing has to do with improving the lives of our people. How does spinning Gusheshe improve our lives. How does entering a rally in a Gusheshe improve our lives compared to how to plant vegetables sustain ourselves and protect food security and ensure that we live a healthy lifestyle. We have got our priorities mixed up.”
