Mbalula is now focused on ANC election campaign: Ramaphosa

African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa says ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula is now focused on running the party’s election campaign following his recent health scare.

Mbalula became emotional and collapsed at the Constitutional Court during proceedings in the ANC’s legal battle with the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).

The apex court ruled in favour of the ANC, ordering the IEC to allow 181 of the party’s councillor candidates to participate in the November 4 elections.

Mbalula has since returned to work.

Ramaphosa says the court ruling has lifted the burden on the Secretary-General, allowing him to focus on the party’s election campaign.

“No, the Secretary-General obviously is elated, and the burden that was weighing on his shoulders is off, and he can now focus on running the elections for the ANC.”
