MKP eyes uMhlathuze in KZN ahead of 2026 LGE

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) says it is working to take over the City of uMhlathuze, on the KwaZulu Natal north coast after the upcoming local government elections.
The party’s deputy coordinator for the municipality, Zandile Mngenge, says residents cannot continue living without basic services.
She was speaking at a party rally at the Esikhawini College Sports Grounds where the MK Party‘s president Jacob Zuma is expected to speak later on Saturday.
Mngenge says some residents have been without basic services for days.
“Around uMhlathuze we haven’t had water for four days so there’s no way that as MKP, we can allow that situation to go on. We are busy making sure that we’re ready to take over the municipality of uMhlathuze because there are so many things that need attention. Even the refuse is not taken care of. You’ll find that all these keepers are full and they are not picking it up,” she says.
