SACP marks first election contest since ’94 in Cape Town

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Western Cape has launched its election manifesto at Crossroads in Cape Town.
The 2026 Local Government Elections will mark the first time the SACP will contest elections since 1994, marking a departure from their-long standing arrangement with the ANC-led Tripartite Alliance.
The party also announced 41 ward council candidates and will be announcing more ahead of the November fourth Local Government Elections.
They say they are currently working on localising the six priority areas that national leadership has created to address the challenges specifically affecting the Western Cape.
SACP Western Cape Secretary Benson Ngqentsu said, “Key amongst other things is the provision of reliable public service and the ability and capacity of the state, the municipality, to have the capacity to repair and a departure from the current system of the outsourcing of municipal services. The second one: the right to decent work, because when workers are outsourced, their conditions of employment become precarious but when they are under the employ of the municipalities, they are guaranteed of social benefits.”
