IEC’s efforts to counter disinformation praised

The Chairperson of the Select Committee on Security and Justice, Jane Mananiso says they are satisfied with the work that the IEC has done to counter disinformation about next month’s elections.
The Portfolio Committees on Home Affairs, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs as well as the Select Committee on Security and Justice, conducted an oversight visit at the IEC headquarters in Centurion, Gauteng last Friday.
Mananiso says they are happy with the IEC’s readiness.
“What one has got information and interest on was around measures put in place to counter disinformation. The committee welcomes the IEC introduction of the code of conduct on measures to counter disinformation recognising the risk that false and misleading information poses to the integrity of the electoral process. We have engaged at length and we have been taken through the process on how the IEC has ensured how they kept the misleading and misinformation as it happening.”
