Early indications are that the Patriotic Alliance (PA) is emerging in the top three in the Western Cape.

This is according to the political analyst Sanusha Naidu.

58% of the votes have been counted in the province.

At this point, the PA is the third biggest party in the City of Cape Town and the second biggest in the province.

The party was the sixth biggest in the 2021 local government elections.

Naidu says a trend is starting to emerge.

“A trend that we’re beginning to see just based on what we see on the board and what we’re seeing on the IEC website on the results website is that the PA is generally in the second or third position here. And that’s a very important thing to make, because we’ve always been watching what the PA will be doing, the Patriotic Alliance…and in that context, the question would be: in some areas, they’re not winning wards, but are they maybe getting a seat on a council?”
