Results validate SACP contesting elections independently: Masuku

The South African Communist Party (SACP)’s first Deputy-General Secretary Madala Masuku has welcomed the party’s performance, saying it validates the decision taken to contest elections independently and reflects growing support for the party’s political programme.
The results indicate strong support for the party in the Eastern Cape, where it is polling above 6% and is currently placed 4th behind the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

The SACP is also making gains in Limpopo and the North West.
Masuku says the early results suggest growing support for the SACP’s decision to contest elections independently.
“We chose that during these elections we must re-introduce the Communist Party so that people can know what we stand for, what it is all about and also to persuade people to say that their alternative we think can make the country to move forward. We’ve been talking with them within ourselves as an alliance. But we feel now that they must actually come now. We want to thank the people in South Africa. The communities actually responded very well and they actually liked the idea and, in some communities, they actually led the selling of the idea and also campaigning.”
“I was in KZN some two days ago and I found that people who were leading there were old people and we had to buy them walking sticks for them. That’s what we’ve been appreciating so the energies are very high now and we feel that if we had enough time and enough money, and we did not have enough money to be able to reach out everywhere. Where we have gone to, we actually think that we have made a mark,” explains Masuku.
