With half of the voting districts completed in the City of Cape Town, the metro appears on course to remain the country’s only major municipality governed by a single party.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) is currently leading with 61% of the vote, although projections suggest its support could settle at around 58% once all ballots have been counted.

The African National Congress (ANC) is currently standing on just under 9.7% in the metro with the Patriotic Alliance (PA) so far showing just under 4%.

Across the Western Cape, where 74% of voting districts have been counted, the DA is leading with 54% of the vote.

With 97% of the votes counted so far, the ANC is leading by over 32% of the votes followed by the DA at 24% and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in third position with almost 9%.

In the 2021 municipal elections the ANC won 31 seats.

Rand West comprises townships like Randfontein and Bekkersdal.
