The Electoral Commission (IEC) says 2.6 million eligible voters have registered to cast special ballots in the local government elections.

Special voting takes place on Monday and on Tuesday.

The main voting day is on Wednesday, 4 November.

Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo was addressing the media at the National Results Operations Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg.

He says those who have applied to cast their ballots at home should ensure that they are at the places of residence over the next two days to ensure that electoral staff can enable them to make their mark.

Mamabolo says there is a WhatsApp number on 0600 88 00 00 where eligible voters can check their details.

“They can also check their voting station details and sequence numbers on the voters roll through the following channels: WhatsApp channel on 0600 88 0000 or at the IEC contact centre 0800 11 80 00 or an SMS to 32810. “

The IEC briefs media on the state of readiness ahead of the all important elections on Wednesday:
