Giyani residents hope elections will address ongoing water challenges

Some residents at Mbaula village outside Giyani in Limpopo say access to water remains a major challenge.
As special voting concluded, residents hoped the upcoming municipal elections would bring an administration that would address their water challenges.
Kate Chauke, who has cast her ballot in the special votes, says they are forced to buy water for domestic use.
“It’s been too long without water for us. We just voted because we hope for change, but water remains our main challenge. For now, we rely on our neighbours who have boreholes for drinking water. We sometimes buy them electricity to pump water, as they give us water for free. We hope that the government will resolve our challenges after elections.”
