21-year-old first-time voter, Shaun-lee Stone from Kakamas in the Northern Cape, says a lack of water, electricity, housing and proper sanitation are among the key issues that motivated him to vote in this year’s Local Government Elections.

Kakamas is an agricultural town in the Kai!Garib Municipality.

During this time of the year, the town experiences an influx of seasonal workers who will not be able to vote in these elections.

“The problems we have are water, electricity and housing. There are also people who do not have toilets, because we all want to have toilets of our own.” Stone elaborates.
