The Democratic Alliance (DA) in George, Western Cape, is holding a victory parade following its majority win in the local government elections.

In the previous election, the party secured just over 46% of the vote, forcing it to govern the municipality through a coalition with the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) and the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP).

It has now won 28 out of 55 council seats after securing just over 50% voter supporter this week.

The parade was led by DA provincial leader, Tertius Simmers and George Mayor-elect, Browen Johnson.

The party says it had almost 400 000 new voters across the province.
