The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it will reflect on the losses it has sustained in the 2026 Local Government Elections to prepare for the 2029 elections.

The party has lost over 600 000 votes, recording a total of 1.8 million compared to 2.4 million in 2021. This represents a drop of four percent.

Addressing the media at the Results Operations Centre in Midrand, EFF leader Julius Malema said, “A setback is not a defeat. It is an opportunity which gives us a moment to reflect on how to better present ourselves and our message of service delivery to our people.”

“We are more resolute than ever and will use this election and its outcome to prepare for the national and provincial elections to be held in 2029. The EFF will not hide from the national picture and we will not make excuses. We have lost 612 326 votes nationally and moved from third to fourth place.”
