IEC declares Results Operations Centre fit for purpose

With a week to go before South Africans go to the polls on 4 November, the Electoral Commission (IEC) has declared its results system fit for purpose.
The IEC today launched the National Results Operations Centre, colloquially known as the ROC in at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg.
The ROC will serve as the engine room for the capture and release of results from 23 000 voting stations across the country.
It will also serve as the nerve centre for the management and oversight of the electoral process, allowing, amongst others, representatives of political parties and independent candidates as well as the media to monitor the integrity of the polls.
IEC CEO Sy Mamabolo says: “To ensure that this system is functionally robust and cyber security resilient, it has now been independently tested and audited. Naturally, findings were made during this audit process. Our report to the nation is that those findings have now been remediated, and the results system is hereby declared ready and fit for purpose.”
