About the party
uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) was founded in December 2023 when former president Jacob Zuma announced that, while planning to remain a lifelong member of the ANC, he would not be campaigning for it in the 2024 South African general elections, instead he would be voting for MKP. Despite being new, the party contested the May 2024 general elections, winning a massive share of the votes, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal province. MKP has 58 seats in the National Assembly, making it the official opposition. The November 4 poll will mark the MKP's debut in municipal election.
