About the party
The United Christian Democratic Party (UCDP) was founded in 1997 by Lucas Mangope, the former leader of the apartheid-era Bophuthatswana bantustan. The party emerged as a successor and revival of the Tswana National Party (TNP) that Mangope led during the era of Bophuthatswana's nominal independence. The UCDP bases its political philosophy on Christian values, non-racial democracy, and personal self-reliance. The party has historically emphasised regional interests, traditional leadership, and local governance, primarily centered in the North West province.
