Excluded councillor candidates for MKP demand expulsion of officials

At least 36 excluded councillor candidates for the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) have publicly demanded the expulsion of party officials responsible for allegedly altering and manipulating the candidate lists submitted to the Electoral Commission (IEC).
The disgruntled group, supported by party members gathered in Durban to speak on the matter and despite their frustration they’ve called on party supporters to rally behind the MKP.
The group of affected candidates say they were nominated and elected by the communities in accordance with the party’s constitution.
Sthembiso Lamjola is among the affected councilor candidates,“Our position is that we wish those unlawful candidates to be dismissed and expelled from the organisation. We require this action to be taken with immediate effect because we believe the will of the people has been compromised and jeopardised and that is why we took this stand today, not in the interests of attacking the organisation but to express the will of the people that are left at home.”
In response to the allegations, the MKP removed two senior officials, Sibonelo Maphumulo and Zandile Hlophe-Mkhwanazi who were amongst the officials responsible for the submission of candidates.
A few days ago, the Secretary-General Sbonelo Nomvalo was also relieved of his duties. But despite this party members have expressed dissatisfaction with the steps the party has taken.
