Free State election results capturing reaches 93%: IEC

Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC ) provincial manager, Itumeleng Liba, says the capturing of election results in the Free State has reached 93 %.

Only 311 ballot slips still need to be captured from municipalities including Matjhabeng, Maluti-A-Phofung, Metsimaholo and the Mangaung Metro.

Ten municipalities in the province are expected to emerge as hung councils, where no single party secures an outright majority.

Only four municipalities were hung in the 2021 local government elections.

Liba says the commission is working to conclude the process.

“We have increased the number of staff, they are hard at work but I am positive that we will be completed with Mangaung soon because I know that there is a quite an interest in Mangaung but by this evening the results will be finalized.”
