Information Regulator spokesperson Nomzamo Zondi has urged voters to verify information before sharing it and to rely on credible sources during the elections.
“I want to speak first about organisations or companies, which we call responsible parties. They have an obligation and a responsibility under the Protection of Personal Information Act to ensure that when they use the personal information of clients or customers, or data subjects, as we call them, they have strong security measures in place, both organisational and technical. When we talk about technical measures, this means ensuring that systems are encrypted and have airtight security to prevent hacking and unauthorised access to that information.”
