Voting stations close as local polls now move to counting phase

Voting stations across South Africa have officially closed after a day of voting in the 2026 Local Government Elections.
However, the Electoral Commission (IEC) has stressed that all voters who were already in the queue before 21:00 will still be given an opportunity to cast their ballots.
Attention now shifts to the Results Operations Centre in Midrand, where the IEC is expected to brief the nation on the conclusion of polling operations and the commencement of vote counting as the country awaits results.
